Antimicrobial Evaluation of Cardol and Cardol-Metal Complexes from the Nut Shell Liquid of <I>Anacardium occidentale</I>

Cardol, as one of the major constituents Cashew Nut Shell Liquids has received little attentionin terms modification and applications. The presence two hydroxyl groups an alkyl sidechain 15 carbon length make it a natural compound interest. present study is aimed atmodification complexation cardol, antimicrobial investigations compoundas well its analogue complexes. Isolated cardol from cashew nut shell liquid was nitrated,and compounds were used in synthesis metal (II) complexes Copper, Cobalt, andZinc. characterised by melting points, UV-Visspectrophotometry, Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectrophotometry, Nuclear Magneticresonance (NMR) spectroscopy. antibacterial antifungal evaluations both thecompounds tested vitro against some selected bacteria fungi. From theresults, Copper complex nitrocardol produced significantly higher zone ofinhibition (11.5 ± 2.1 mm) Pedobacter mendelii than tetracycline while complexof showed activity (13.5 Rhizopusstolonifar clotrimazole (10.0 0.0 mm). It generally observed that andmetal enhanced cardol.
